Inspired Recipe: Lukshen Kugel
Here’s a foolproof mac ‘n’ cheese-style lukshen kugel recipe inspired by Michael Chabon’s The Yiddish Policemen’s Union. Why?
Because even the toughest detectives need warmth and love once in a while…and comfort is best served with extra cheese.

For a Katie Halpern twist, sprinkle on a little Huffin’ n Puffin’ hot sauce to taste—it’s the perfect balance of hot and sweet for this dish. (Also, it has an awesome name.)
This recipe creates a really comforting dish, something like mac ‘n’ cheese-style kugel—the sort of thing that is always a hit with the kids too. This isn’t something that would work for vegans (egg noodles and all that cheese, hello!), but the rest of us can certainly partake in its creamy glory. A side of peas goes great with this as well. The vegetables add a welcome pop of color and up the nutritional value of the meal as well.
That seems easy, huh? Happy kugeling!
If you’re looking for something a little different, you could always go for a sweet lukshen kugel.
