This is going to be a big year. After a year and a half of freelancing, I started a full-time job this week. It was a long journey getting to this point, one I don't think I could have managed without said freelancing, and one I'm proud to have undertaken. Starting a new job at the start of a new year is a great feeling. In some ways, it is reminiscent of getting married at the turn of the year. Marking milestones in our first year of marriage became that much easier thanks to its alignment with the calendar. I hope for more of that in this new job.
As I take on new responsibilities at the office, I intend to continue to run PAPER/PLATES much the same way I have for the past 18 months — with perhaps a bit more planning ahead. Newsletter subscribers will notice I've reverted back to daily email alerts rather than the more recent weekly digest design. As I settle in at work and get a better feel for what I can and can't handle, I may switch back to the once-a-week format. If you have strong feelings about one or the other, leave me a comment below. Aside from that, things should remain mostly the same — we'll still be bringing you pairings posts on Mondays, Bookmarked on Tuesdays, At the Table With on Wednesdays, my random musings on Thursdays and The TBR List on Fridays.
Looking ahead at 2014, I can hardly imagine what's in store. But last week, Shiraaz and I took some time to celebrate our first year together with a trip down the Pacific Coast Highway (or PCH, for those in the know). We started in San Francisco and made stops in Monterey, Carmel, Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and Orange County. The break from #chiberia was more than welcome, but it was having time together to reflect on a wonderful start to our lives together that was indispensable. Below, take a look at a few of my favorite shots from the trip.
Cheers to 2014!
