Thinking of Turkey

Thinking of Turkey

I've been thinking a lot about Turkey lately. We're planning a trip there this year. There's so much about it that excites me: the promise of hot air balloons over Cappadocia, the history and culture of Istanbul, the beauty and power of the Bosphorus.

And then there's the food.

This short essay on an Istanbul fish stand run by a man named Tayfun captures a moment, a beautiful one, one I hope to experience when I visit that beautiful city that straddles two continents. Maybe I, too, can taste fish grilled expertly by the man who followed in his father's footsteps to cook the best balik in the city. Maybe I can acquire such a delicious and history-laden experience for the cost of a few lira and some searching.

Have you been to Turkey, to Cappadocia or Istanbul? I'd love to get your recommendations for where to stay and, especially, where to eat.
